MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beermen defeated Barangay Ginebra (91-85) and wrapped up the series in 4-1 and become the second team to win for third consecutive PBA Philippine Cup title on Sunday, March 05, 2017 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
San Miguel Beermen is now the second team to capture the Perpetual Trophy headed by Leo Austria, Talk ‘N Text is the first team who captured the Perpetual Trophy in the 3 year span from 2010-2013 season headed by the current Head Coach of Meralco Bolts (Norman Black).

As always Beermen relied heavily on their starters, Arwind Santos and June Mar Fajardo lead the Beermen in scoring with 21 points each including 8 rebounds and 6 rebounds respectively,Santos also made 5 of 7 in deep.
The Crunch Man also added 18 points while Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter only finished with 12 points each but Chris Ross did a lot of damage also added 10 assists and 8 rebounds plus 6 steals and named as Finals MVP .
Ginebra who never lead nor tied last game against the Beermen, tonight they started with 5-0 to open the game and squared the Beermen for 3 times in the opening period.
Since then Beermen takes control the game and came up with 51-41 at the break. Cabagnot’s open the period with a lay-up and stretch the lead to 53-41 but the Never say Die spirit for Ginebra came up live as they trim the lead to only 63-61 for the first 36 minutes of play.
Everytime Ginebra threatens the Beermen, Beermen never panic, TheKraken open the final period with a 3 point play to stretch to a 5 point lead. After Beermen extend their lead to 81-72, LA Tenorio caught on fire dropping his 2 treys including a 3 point play of Aguilar and a basket of Devance that started the 11-3 run for Ginebra to trail by 84-83 in the 2 minute frame, but Barangay Ginebra went 1 of 6 in the field in the last 2 minutes of play and Beermen able to closed the game in 7-2 run.
Meanwhile, never say die spirit of Barangay Ginebra comes to an end who entered the finals in the 7th place in the elimination round and had a twice to beat disadvantage to the Alaska Aces in Quarter finals and down 3-2 in the semi-finals against Star Hotshots but still survived and meet the loaded San Miguel Beermen in the finals despite the absence of their big man “Greg Slaughter”.
Japeth Aguilar, who started early with 13pts in the first quarter led the Barangay Ginebra with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Sol Mercado and Joe Devance also finished with 20 points each, Devance also added 12 rebounds and 8 assists.
