Medellin, Cebu – Municipality of Medellin extracted a historical tank World War II “WWII US Army M5A1” Stuart tank that was buried in Dagusungan River.
The project was led by Cpt. Czar Guitering and Ssg Peter Louie Salvatierra along with the Engineer Support Batallion, 53rd Engineering Brigade and the Philippine Army.
It was started 13 months ago “December 2018” and initiated by Batallion Commander Col Manolo Santiago, where they retrieved a piece of the track link. They work late at night or early in the morning, taking advantage when the tide as its lowest.
PFC Teofilo Tango-an who operated the 50 tonner backhoe excavator, with the assistant backhoe loader Cpl. Tomas Nietes, Jr who help the “WWII US Army M5A1” fully recovered.
Mayor Benjun Mondigo wanted to recover the army tank for use in their municipal’s cultural and heritage program.
The 7 day operation with the help of SB member Titing Yurag and Tourism Consultant and Project Coordinator Bambi Pacquiao, along with the BFP, BPAT,MDRRMO, DPWH, Gonzaludo Enterprises, Duros Construction and Rovilla Contractors and BOMEDCO.
