Manila, Philippines – Our very own Marathoner Mary Joy Tabal grabs the first gold medal for the Philippines in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mary Joy Tabal, one of the pride from Cebu is the first Filipino athlete to qualify for the next Olympics who dominated the 2017 Women’s Marathon. Tabal, who finished the 42 Km Marathon in 2 hours 48 minutes and 26 seconds. Tabal,who got 124th place at the 2016 Rio Olympics for the Women’s Marathon now, she will bring the gold medal on her hometown.
The Palace congratulates the athlete for her gold medal achievement.
“So we congratulate Mary Joy Tabal for giving the Philippines its first gold medal with her performance in the women’s marathon at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” Malacañang said in a statement read by China Jocson, assistant to the Presidential Spokesperson, on state-run Radyo Pilipinas on Saturday.

As of this writing the Philippines is currently in sixth place in the medal tally, with 1 Gold medal, 1 Silver medal, and 2 Bronze medals, Malaysia the host country dominated in medal tally as they grabs already with 7 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals and 5 Bronze medals
