MANILA, Philippines – Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has ordered to recall all vehicle license plates with the number “8”.
The order is contained in a memorandum issued to members of the chamber by Cesar Pareja, who is secretary general of the House of Representatives.
Cesar Pareja told that they received a report that certain vehicles with Plate No. 8 have been spotted in indecent places and has subjected to crime-related activities.
Last August 16, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) had turned over to Highway Patrol Group at least four vehicles with license plate “8” – after they were recovered at a cybersex den in Pasay City.
The vehicles are a Jaguar, a Ford Expedition, a Hyundai Starex and a Toyota Avanza. NBI raiders found them when they raided the den and rescued 11 minors who were being peddled to foreigners for anywhere from $300 to $400.
Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco questioned the memorandum by the secretary.
We should include 17th Congress. We don’t need ‘8’ plate to serve our constituents. If they are really serious about this, they should pass my bill banning the ‘8’ plate to punish those would use this,” Tiangco said.
Rep. Toby Tiangco added that “these public officers, their drivers, bodyguards, or persons using their vehicles often use their plates to get away with traffic”.
