Manila, Philippines — La Salle sweeps Ateneo Blue Eagles as they crown as UAAP season 79 champion. With 17,495 gate attendance today December 07 2016 (Wednesday) La Salle finally celebrate with their triumphant victory at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
La Salle outscored the Blue Eagles in their game 2 with a final score of (79-72) that sweeps the Ateneo in UAAP season 79.
Jeron Teng, who only scored 10pts in game 1, he exploded with 28pts today as he also named as Finals Most Valuable Player in UAAP season 79.
First Quarter
As previous game La Salle dominates the opening quarter now Ateneo got their lockdown on defense. Ateneo Blue Eagles also the first to make a basket (2-0) lead unlike in game 1 they only lead in dying seconds in the fourth quarter (65-64). But Jeron Teng looks superior as he opens with his first 10pts out of 12pts of La Salle just under 5:16minutes to play.
La Salle, who outscored the Blue Eagles in game 1 in the opening period (19-6), Ateneo now behind by (22-16) to open the period.
Second Quarter
As Jeron Teng still on fire La Salle leads balloon to 13pts (23-36), La Salle still holds a 10pts lead going into the break (35-45) and now Teng had a total of 19pts.
Third Quarter
When Montalbo started on fire and Mbala looks unstoppable in the low post plus an explosive Jeron Teng, La Salle leads climb to 14pts after Montalbo hit a triple (52-38) under 7:15 minutes remaining in the third period. Ateneo just trims the lead by 3 and La Salle just holds (59-52) going into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
With the presence of Mbala and Melecio and Caracut provide major offense on the final period, La Salle easily extend their lead to 13pts (52-65), but Ateneo went (10-2) run and trim the lead by 5pts under 4:40 minutes (62-67). When La Salle needs an answer, Ben Mbala made a thunderous follow-up dunk after a miss lay-up of Jeron Teng to extend the lead (62-69). Ateneo threatens again the Archers and now only behind by 4pts (69-73) under 1:35 minutes, but when the Ateneo’s deffense looks to Jeron Teng, he dished a wide open Mbala to extend the lead to 6 and sealed a win that ended (79-72).
Ben Mbala who awarded as UAAP season 79 MVP finished again with double-double 18pts and 10 rebounds.
Mike Nieto lead the Ateneo with his 18pts. Wong and Verano finished with 10pts each. But Thirdy Ravena who also awarded as mythical five only finished with 3pts
