MANILA, Philippines – Star Hotshots take 2-0 lead against the Ginebra San Miguel in their game 2 of semifinal with a tough 91-89 victory tonight at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, February 11, 2017.
Angas ng Tondo “Paul Lee” continue to deliver a crucial basket when it’s needed in the clutch time. Just like game 1 of the series when Paul Lee delivered a crucial basket against a tight defense of Sol Mercado, tonight he delivered a clutch transition lay-up against LA Ternorio coming from loose ball on Ginebra’s missed.

Paul Lee powered the Star Hotshots who finished with 17 points, Marc Pingris added with 10 points along with his 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Maliksi and Melton also in double figure with 14pts and 11pts respectively. Jio Jalalon and Raffy Reavis also had a big impact who finished 9pts each of the win.
Despite the good start for the Barangay as their rookie Kevin Ferrer poured early with 11pts who made 2 triples, Barangay Ginebra who leads by 15-10, although they had tied 4 times in the opening period and 3 lead changes, Star Hotshots managed with 27-23 lead in the opening period.
Somehow Start Hotshots lead as much as 7pts who controlled the tempo in the second period carried with 50-45 lead going into the break.
Kevin Ferrer carried the load of Barangay Ginebra who made 2 triples in the third period and behind the 2 deadlock with 55 apiece and 59 apiece, but the total team effort of the Star matters as they extend the lead again with 70-61 but Barangay managed to trim the lead only 3pts (69-72) going into the final period.
Ginebra took another 2 deadlock with 79 and 81 apiece, until they regain the lead with 83-81 through Thompson jumper under 5 minutes of play, but it was answered by Justin Melton to tie with 83 apiece. But Star Hotshots proved to be a tough team down the stretch after having their 10th deadlock with 85 apiece.
If Ginebra’s has Thompson Star also had Jio Jalalon who made and important basket to separate with 87-85 advantage, then another Paul Lee Transition lay-up against Tenorio to hold with 89-85 lead, but Thompson continue to impress the Barangay as he made a basket to trim 89-87 with 36seconds left. Paul just wasted the time on the next position and missed a jumper, but Raffy Reavis got an offensive rebound that sends him to the free throw line after Tenorio intentionally foul him and made the 2 crucial free throws.
Kevin Ferrer, who only scored 7pts in game lead the Barangay Ginebra tonight with 25pts who drops 5 of 11 from the three point line. Japeth Aguilar also in double-double output who finished with 16pts and 15 rebounds.
Scottie Thompson only shy of 4 assist to get his second triple-double in PBA, he finished with 17pts along with his 10rebounds and 6 assists. Tenorio only held with 8pts in the 2 consecutive games.
