MANILA, Philippines – Defending Champion San Miguel Beermen revenge with a blowout wire-to-wire victory (134-109) against the Barangay Ginebra to even the series (1-1) for their game 2 of best of 7 PBA 2018 Commissioner’s Cup Final series at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on July 29, 2018.
San Miguel Beermen proved that they can adjust after a devastating 39 point loss in game 1, tonight Beermen is relying on their point guard in the opening quarter Alex Cabagnot who scored 10 points alone doubled his output game 1 loss.
Game 2 is just the same scenario in game 1 in which Barangay Ginebra drops 35 points in the first quarter, tonight Beermen drop 34 points and make it 75-46 at the half. Brownlee’s 11 points production of the half is opposite to his game 1 production with 29 points, tonight Brownlee hit a perfect 4 of 4 in the field at the half, but only had limited touches because of Balkman who guarded him since the opening minute.
San Miguel Beermen continue to dominate in the third quarter stretching the lead to a 31 points, but Ginebra started to cut the lead after Reynaldo Balkman received his flagrant foul 1 for accidentally elbowing Joe Devance that forced him to sit out for 3 minutes, Justin Brownlee capitalizes with a 2 back-to-back trey ignited with 15-6 run to trim the lead 85-65 in the 5 minute frame.
Barangay Ginebra fans started angry after Arwind Santos intentionally hit Scottie Thompson in the mid section, Santos exits the court with 5 minutes left in the game who finished 14 points in the game, including 8 points alone in the 4th quarter, Chriss Ross also received his second technical fouls for taunting Joe Devance.
San Miguel Beermen and Barangay Ginebra both won with a wire-to-wire in each occasion, game 1 Barangay Ginebra lead the entire game and now Beermen also lead the entire game tonight.
Alex Cabagnot bounce back after a low production in game 1, leading the Beermen with 33 points including 4 rebounds and 9 assist. June Mar Fajardo added 25 points and 8 rebounds, while Balkman only held by 20 points including 11 rebounds. Only Chriss Ross for the San Miguel Beermen starters who never attempted more shots, Ross is 0 of 1 in the 28 minutes of play. Marcio Lassiter also got 20 points. Christian Standhardinger finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists off the bench.
Justin Brownlee, who had 44 points production in game 1, he still led Barangay Ginebra with 29 points including 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Joe Devance also finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Scottie Thompson and Greg Slaughter led the Bench of Barangay Ginebra with 16 points and 15 points respectively.
Game 3 of the finals will be on Wednesday, the same venue at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with 2 days rest who will take a 2-1 advantage of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals?
