- migrant workers in other fields like in factory can work for 12 years
Workforce Development Agency “WDA” Chief Hsueh Chien-chung said that the main reason for these extensions are being given is to reduce the cross-border movement of people during the pandemic. Taiwan closes its border last March to fight Corona Virus.
Since Taiwan closed its border last March, those migrant workers whose contracts were expiring between March 17 – June 17 already used the 3 month extension.
Migrant workers whose contracts will expire from “June 17 – September 17 2020“, their respective employer may apply for an extension and those contracts who already expired on March 17 – June 17 may also apply for another 3 month extension.
There was already a total of 1,033 migrant workers applied extensions by their employers, 377 of them are caregivers and 656 are from industrial workers.
