Manila, Philippines – September 28, 2016 – semi-final matchup continue between San Miguel Beermen and Barangay Ginebra in Philippine Governors Cup.
San Miguel Beermen bounced back as they edge the Barangay Ginebra in Game 2. As usual early big production of the Cebuano’s big man (June Mar Fajardo) made a big impact of the San Miguel with 8 made points easily in the 5 minutes of play in the opening quarter. Rookie player of the Ginebra Kings showed up that he can also be a potential scorer after pouring 8 points of the 12 output score by the Kings. Ginebra Kings have a long drought as they didn’t make any basket for about 5 minutes not until the free throw of Sol Mercado plus a basket with a Japeth Aguilar that ended (18-24) in the first quarter in favor of San Miguel.
Unlike game 1 there are so many baskets made behind the 3 point line both teams have not converted until Marsio Lassiter knock down 2 consecutive 3 baskets that extend the lead (24-36) with 8 minutes to play. Junemar Fajardo accidentally got injured (cut just above his left eye) after the lay-up of Millsap that landed him, that lay-up is blocked by Aguilar. San Miguel rushes Fajardo to the locker room for immediate action.
Junemar Fajardo inserted in the third quarter with a headband on his head plus a bandage nearly on his eye to prevent from bleeding. Tenorio, who is scoreless in game 1 made a big production in the 3rd quarter as he poured 12 points plus 5 in the first half. He was a facilitator of that period that cut the lead from (51-40) – (72-71) in the third.
Early in the fourth period the Beermen knock down 3 triples that extend their lead (88-87) with more than 7 minutes to play. Kings slowly cut that lead until big 3 point basket of Tenorio made (92-93) with 20.4 seconds left to play. Ginebra Kings tried to steal the ball from Millsap that lead Milssap to a slam dunk.
Ginebra Kings had a chance to send the game into over time, but unlucky the 3 point attempt of Justine Brownlee with 12 seconds left did not fall in.
Ross and Tenorio, who are scoreless in game 1 made a big impact on this game. Tenorio tallied 22 big points while Ross got only 8 in San Miguel.
